Biography of artist John Alcock
GOOD ART is window to the soul of the artist ,refection of the true inner self. It should reflect on or be a reflection of community values. For the observer ,good art should touch the soul and be reflected there.
Born 26 July 1950 in Walpeup, Victoria , Australia.
I
grew up in the small Mallee town of Walpeup. At an early age my parents
shaped my interest in the arts and the Australian bush and developed a great love and respect for both. As a teenager I was further influenced
by the
Impressionists. I was fascinated by the use of colour to create an
illusion of shape and depth. Later I was influenced one of the expressionist
with his use of pure colour in a highly disciplined and restrictive
manner to create works of harmony and balance. These days I try to work
free of outside influences.

Statement of art style
My work is fundamentally about the environment, exploring concepts of time and space. Drawn from the fundamental understanding of our environment. As in Australia we have a deep spiritual bond with the bush which we love so much. We are locked into this eternal struggle with our environment, leaving us with feeling of awe and at time dread. We are bond together in our love of this unforgiving land with it's long devastating droughts, the beauty of wildflowers after the rain. The terrible bush fires that can be so distructive. So we dance this dance together this ancient land and us. Locked into this in this land of extremes we love so much with her droughts, floods and devastating bush fires. Yet it is a land of rugged beauty, to which many do fall under her spell. I am trying to express this through my symbolic portal of the Australian bush in all forms and moods.
